Follow the simple steps below to create your own custom patterned letters using any font!
Make your own Patterned Word Art:
(Written for Photoshop or Elements)
- Step 1: Type your desired text on a new layer. Choose a thick-lined font for the best results.
- Step 2: Right-click the text layer in the Layers Palette and choose Simplify Layer.
- Step 3: Layer the patterned paper or other element you want to use for your pattern over the letters above the text layer.
- Step 4: Ctrl-Click the icon of your text layer in the Layers Palette. You will see a selection border “marching ants” appear in the shape of your letters.
- Step 5: Select the patterned paper layer in the Layers Palette, keeping the selection border active, press Ctrl+G, then Ctrl+E to “clip” your patterned paper to the selection border and then merge the layers.
- Step 6: To enhance the look of the patterned word art you can play around with your program’s Layer Styles by double clicking the icon of the word art you just created, and try adding drop shadows, strokes and glow effects to achieve the look you want.
- Step 7: Proceed with your layout.
**Note: Once you simplify the layer you will not be able to edit the letters, so be sure to check your typing!
