If you have enjoyed the layouts given away previously, be sure to give this new one a try too. Remember to download the previous Tuesday's layouts also. Using these pre-made digital scrapbooking layouts will help you jazz up all your digital scrapbooking pages in an easy way.

Digital Scrapbooking Templates are easy to use and will give your creativity a jump start! You just drop your own papers, elements, journaling, and photos into the pre-made layout using your preferred Digital Scrapbooking program, such as Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, or any Software program that accepts PSD files and allows you to work in layers.

These templates can be used over and over again, giving you enough help to complete your digital scrapbooking needs! These layouts are available for everyone who wants to give the pre-made digital scrapbooking template a try.

You can download today's template by clicking on the image that appears below: This week, RLR Creations will also provide a tutorial for Photoshop Elments users on How-To use one of our templates! Follow the easy steps below to learn how to fill the shapes on the layout in the PSD file with digital papers, edit or replace elements, and then edit or add word art. Be sure to look back at RLR Creations previous tutorials also!

How to Use a PSD Template in Photoshop Elements:

Basically, to use a template, you can fill the shapes in the PSD file with digital papers, edit or replace elements, and then edit or add text or word art.

  1. Open the template and the papers you want to use in Photoshop Elements. Note that the template consists of several layers of grayscale shapes.

Note: Open Elements then chose File>Open, rather then opening the template into the program, so you can view the layers.

Tip: Duplicate the template and work with a copy to avoid ruining the template source file. To duplicate a file, from the File menu, select Duplicate.

2. To add the background, select the background layer, then copy a paper to the template:

    1. Make sure you can see the template and the paper in the workspace. From the Window menu, select Images, then Cascade to display both files.

    2. Select the Move tool, then drag-and-drop the photo to the template. The paper is displayed on the layer above the background.

3. To fill shapes with paper, select a grayscale shape layer, then copy a paper to the template:

    1. In the template, select the layer that contains the shape you want to fill.

    2. Make sure you can see the template and the paper in the workspace. From the Window menu, select Images, then Cascade to display both files.

    3. Select the Move tool, then drag-and-drop the paper to the template. The paper is displayed on the layer above the selected shape.

    4. With the paper layer selected, press Ctrl+G to create a clipping group with the shape layer below. The paper is now displayed within the shape.

4. Repeat this process with all the shape layers you want to fill.

5. To add a photo, select the photo layer, then copy the photo to the template:

    1. In the template, select the photo layer.

    2. Make sure you can see the template and the photo in the workspace. From the Window menu, select Images, then Cascade to display both files.

    3. Select the Move tool, then drag-and-drop the photo to the template. The photo is displayed on the layer above the photo shape.

    4. With the photo selected, press Ctrl+G to create a clipping group with the shape layer below. The photo is now displayed within the shape.

6. Resize and reposition the photo as needed:

    1. After you drag the photo to the template, the photo has handles that you can use to resize and reposition the photo in the frame.

    2. If you do not see the handles, in the Layers palette, select the layer that contains the photo and press Ctrl+T to display the bounding box.

    3. Click the green checkmark to apply the changes.

Word Art Wednesday:
Adding Style to Your Digital Word Art!

Today RLR Creations will be giving a tutorial on How-To create patterened word art! Using clipping masks to layer photos in a unique way to add style to your digital scrapbooking, as seen in yesterday's post, but clipping masks are also a great way to give your word art a colorful flair.
This technique can be seen in the sample image below:

This page was created using elements from RLR Creations "Backyard Fun Digital Kit" You can view and purchase the kit here!

Follow the simple steps below to create your own custom patterned letters using any font!

Make your own Patterned Word Art:

(Written for Photoshop or Elements)

  • Step 1: Type your desired text on a new layer. Choose a thick-lined font for the best results.

  • Step 2: Right-click the text layer in the Layers Palette and choose Simplify Layer.
  • **Note: Once you simplify the layer you will not be able to edit the letters, so be sure to check your typing!

  • Step 3: Layer the patterned paper or other element you want to use for your pattern over the letters above the text layer.

  • Step 4: Ctrl-Click the icon of your text layer in the Layers Palette. You will see a selection border “marching ants” appear in the shape of your letters.

  • Step 5: Select the patterned paper layer in the Layers Palette, keeping the selection border active, press Ctrl+G, then Ctrl+E to “clip” your patterned paper to the selection border and then merge the layers.

  • Step 6: To enhance the look of the patterned word art you can play around with your program’s Layer Styles by double clicking the icon of the word art you just created, and try adding drop shadows, strokes and glow effects to achieve the look you want.

  • Step 7: Proceed with your layout.

Have you ever seen a creative layout where the designer uses mulitple frames to showcase one photo in a unique way and wondered how they did it?

This page was created using elements from RLR Creations "Nature's Garden Digital Kit" You can view and purchase the kit here!

Today's free template is perfect to showcase one great photo in a unique way and RLR Creations will show you how simple it is to accomplish using the simple steps below.

How to layer one photo across multiple frames in PSD Template using PSE:

  • Step 1: Download the template above and open with Elements.

  • Step 2: Next open the photo you wish to use for the page and drag the photo from the edit window down to the thumbnail of the template. This will add your photo to the template page.

  • Step 3: Move the photo so that is directly over the 4 photo frames in the layout. If necessary resize the photo so that it is about the size of all 4 frames combined.

  • Step 4: Duplicate the photo layer 3 times.

To duplicate a layer in PSE: In the Editor, select the photo to duplicate, and do one of the following:

Select the layer and drag it to the New Layer Button at the top of the Layers Palette, or

Right-Click the layer name or thumbnail, and choose Duplicate Layer.

***Note do not move the photos on your page, you will want all 4 stacked on top of each other.

Now you will have 4 copies of your photo.

  • Step 5: In the Layers Palette drag a copy of your photo above each photo layer. There are 4 photo layers and each should now have a copy of your photo placed right above eachin the Layers Palette.

  • Step 6: One at a time, hover your mouse between the picture layer and the photo layer, and click while holding down the alt key. The photo layer is acting as a clipping mask and your picture conforms to it.

**PS users can simply right-click on each photo layer and choose Create Clipping Mask in the pop up window.

THAT IS IT!! Once you have “clipped” all 4 photos you duplicated your frame photo is now complete!

  • Step 7: Proceed with your layout.

Also be sure to look back at the previous Tuesdays to check out RLR Creations how-to tutorials on how to use pre-made digital scrapbooking templates and how to colorize greyscale elements! • Step 1: From the tool box select the Pen Tool and draw your path, you can drag the vector points and directional anchors around until you get the shape you want by using the direct select tool.

(Note: Creating a curved line is simple---just hold down the shift key as you drag out a line.)

  • Step 3: If the text is showing up on a part where you did not want it, you can adjust the start and end points by selecting the Direct Select tool (Located under the Path Selection Tool, under your Text tool.), select it by pressing Shift + A until its active-but no more than twice. Hover over the start point of the text path until an arrow appears then drag it in to set the start point, then repeat for the end point.

2. In the Layers Palette, right click on the type layer and choose Simplify Layer.

3. Select the Magic Wand tool-Set the Tolerance to 1 and leave the Contiguous box unchecked.

Template Tuesday:
Free Pre-made Digital Scrapbooking Layout!

Today, RLR Creations will be giving you another new pre-made digital scrapbooking template to add to your collection, because it is Tuesday again!! This layout is different from those that have been given away the previous two Tuesdays. Keep in mind, once RLR Creations has given 6 freebie templates away to readers, those layouts will be pulled and made into a new template set. This pre-made digital scrapbooking template set will be able to be purchased from RLR Creations website at that time. Don't let the Tuesdays get away from you, make sure you check out the previous week's freebie templates!

Digital Scrapbooking Templates are easy to use and will give your creativity a jump start! You just drop your own papers, elements, journaling, and photos into the pre-made layout using your prefered Digital Scrapbooking program, such as Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, or any Software program that excepts PSD files and allows you to work in layers.

These templates can be used over and over again, giving you enough help to complete your scrapbooking needs!

These layouts are available for everyone who wants to give the pre-made digital scrapbooking template a try. You can download today's Template by clicking on the photo that appears below:

In addition to this weeks freebie template, RLR Creations has prepared a tutorial demonstrating how-to colorize grayscale elemnts in pre-made layouts! Be sure to follow the steps to add more of your personal creativity to the template as you are clipping in your own embelishments, decorative papers, journaling, and photos.

Pre-Made Templates are a perfect tool for anyone to create a custom look for their digital scrapbooking albums.

There are basically two methods to colorize the element layers within the template.

The first method is to fill a shape with a digital paper or a photo. The second method is to color the grayscale elements using color tools. Today we will focus on how to color grayscale elements in your Pre-Made digital templates.

Two simple methods to colorize Grayscale elements in a pre-made template:

Using a single color is the quickest way to color your pre-made template. Here is how to accomplish coloring grayscale elements using a single color:

  • 1. Open your template and select the layer you wish to add color to by clicking on its layer.

  • 2. Go to Image>Adjustment>Hue and Saturation

(Elements users: Enhance>Adjust Color>Adjust Hue and Saturation)

  • 3. Check the Colorize box and use the sliders to adjust the color of the element to your liking.

Grayscale elements are unique because they include the texture and shading to make the finished product realistic. Because of this simply filling the element with a color will lose this information and the element will fall flat.

You can keep the textures and shading of an element by duplicating the element you wish to color first.

  • 1. Use the same steps above to color the element using the duplicated layer you created.

  • 2. After you have reached your desired color for the element use the blend modes, located at the top of the Layers Palette to blend the duplicated layer with the original layer, to allow the texture of the element to come through.

  • 3. Adjusting the curves or the brightness/contrast will also allow to you lighten or darken your element to further enhance its realistic look.

By using the methods above you can enhance any elements that are included in a pre-made digital scrapbooking template.

By using the methods provided by RLR Creations in this How-To tutorial you can enhance any elements that are included in a pre-made digital scrapbooking template, giving you more ownership in the creative end product!!

Have you found that you only have personal photos to add to this free template and you need the additional elements? Check out RLR Creations creative digital designs. There are Digital Scrapbooking kits for every occasion! You can find them here!
